Ultimate Notifier lets you push notifications to your Apple iPhone.
Initially we were frustrated by the lack of push mail for Google Mail (including GMail and Google Apps) accounts. Yeah, we know you can get it pushed via MobileMe, that's great if you use MobileMe, but we don't. We also know you can get it to poll every 15 minutes, but that really drains the battery and we wanted near-instant push notifications a-la Blackberry, without having to run a client on your own computer 24/7 and without having to go through a complicated process of forwarding selected emails to a specific 'notification' email address. In short, we wanted it to 'just work'.
As iPhone developers we decided to do something about it! As we developed Ultimate Notifier it soon became aparent that there were a number of other features that would be really handy, why restrict it to Google Mail and Google Apps Mail? RSS and Atom feeds, using an aggregation service such as Google Reader or on their own, as well as Twitter (we're at @ultimatenotify but you can get notifications about any Twitter search you like, including your @replies), Facebook and FriendFeed were all things we wanted to be notified about, so we extended our prototype to support these features.
Then it really dawned on us... What if it worked for POP and IMAP too, all of a sudden EVERYONE can have push mail! Seriously! Give it a go!
For the power users out there, we even have an API, so you can send your own notifications to your iPhone from your own applications. Use wget or cURL in combination with your server monitoring system to receive push notifications of important monitoring events.
